Good, but not as good as the first
I enjoyed the book however I did not enjoy it as much as "The Kiterunner". The first part of the book moved too slowly. Perhaps I had set my expectations too high. "The Kiterunner" was a hard act to follow. I would still recommend the book because it was worth reading.

A Fine Novel & A Western-Mind Eye-Opener
Khaled Hosseini has written a fine novel in "A Thousand Splendid Suns." In addition to great writing and a "Splendid" story, the real details of life in Afghanistan will be an eye-opener to the the Western reader. I believe this work has a high cinematic potential-- Paul D. Cohn, Author, "Sao Tome."

Very disappointing
What a disappointment. The author is not a woman, and he cannot convey a genuine female experience, let alone two different experiences. He 'gets' the male characters, but how can a male pretend to know what an abused, terrorized woman feels like? I feel like his publisher pushed him to make a deadline. This effort is not anywhere close to the precision, beauty and sense of truth of The Kite Runner. Perhaps Number Three will work for us all.

A Thousand Splendid Suns
This heartbreaking tale of life for Muslim women in Afganistan of the last 30 years, gives great insight into the survival skills women had to possess to live through numerous governmental shifts, antiquated male-dominated views and the repression of extreme followers of Islam.
Amazing read, and wonderfully hopeful conclusion.
