sarayu made me do it, why i bought the book my daughter and i have just finished this book. i bought it to add to a pile of books that i hoped to read over the holidays. some how it kept making its way to the top. it was an unattractive book to begin with, i hate being cold. the brief bio on the back didn't really resonate with me to believe the author had a good story, fiction or not. The celebrity "blurbs" left me curious though. I find "the message", eugene peterson's translation of the Bible, authentic and real, so.........i bought it. i should not have skipped the forward of the book, but found even in the end it was like another key in the unlocking of a story. It has undoubtedly blinded my mind's eye of a lifelong passion to know God. Knowing God, or trying to, is now no longer something i try to do, but something somehow believabley coscient. william young may have a surreal story to tell, but its Truth is all the more Real for it. my husband and i are reading it together, as are my daughter and her boyfriend. i am planning on buying and giving these as gifts to many people throughout this new year. thank you mack and willie.
Powerfully Compelling! In The Shack, William Paul Young uses a correct, well-balanced conception of how God sees His own creation to tell the story of a shattered man's healing. Not since C. S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength have I read Christian fiction which so skillfully applies a consistent, well-considered who-is-God-and-how-does-He-work scenario to imaginative storytelling.
One is tempted to label this work "theologically accurate", but that would be yielding to a religiosity that The Shack urges us to avoid. Suffice it to say, then, that Young reveals, through fiction, a character so compelling that the reader is driven to re-discover the holy God of Scripture.
WOW, WOW, WOW I am late coming to the party. This book forever changed my life. It cut me deep and to the core. I laughed and wept at the same time. I sat on the edge of my seat not ever wanting to put the book down. I read it in one weekend only to pick it up the very next day and proceed to read it through again. One copy of this book is not enough. You must buy several to give away to people. If you don't know any one leave it in a restaurant or public place. People need to get a hold of this book. Don't be afraid that some of the theology might not line up to yours, just open your heart and be free of all that constrains you. I promise you if you keep an open and loving heart you will not be disappointed
The Shack This is the best book I have ever read. I am in love with my Papa, in ways I never thought possible, I lost a child and this book has brought me closer in my walk because in MY great saddness I remember the wind. It touched my face as a 22 year old mad at God for taking my first born ... I now reflect on that wind and thank Sarayu. Read this book, your life will be changed!!
