Vanilla at best I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan. However, I'm not bitter about this series or any previous ones; I find them all pretty exciting.
Thing is, this is one of the few Star Wars books that have let me down. While there are moments of great action and plot twists, it is overall lacking.
How about the length of this thing? Could it be any shorter? I waited months for this? "The Unifying Force" was over 500 pages long, this one barely made 300.
Vanilla disappointment.
Complete Waste of Time This whole series was a complete waste of time and money. The total mischaracterization of all the characters, the horrible destruction of an excellent character in Jacen Solo, and his final thoughtless demise. This series has killed my love of Star Wars. You can count me out from now on.
I am done with star wars The only good thing about this book is that it actually allowed a prophecy to be fulfilled and it was Jaina's Sword of the Jedi. That is why it got a two. I feel like this series was a complete waste of character development. They built Jacen up, just to tear him down in such a final way. Star Wars has lost this fans money. If I want to read Star Wars books, I will get them from them from the library.
A Good Ending This is the final book in the "Legacy of the Force" series, and it brings it to its conclusion well.
After reading the first couple of books in the series, I waited for this one, having followed a similar pattern with the previous "New Jedi Order" series featuring the war against the Yuuzhan Vong, and in both cases I was glad I just skipped straight to the end. A lot happens in this series between books one and nine, including one very significant death, but it seems like the publishers are just trying to earn as much as possible by stretching what an author like Timothy Zahn could do in a tight trilogy into three times as many books.
So, if you've started the series, this is the one you have to read. The series begins with Jedi knight Jacen Solo trying to understand why his grandfather Anakin Skywalker turned to the Dark Side. In the process he falls himself, and meaning to do good all the way to the end, becomes the Sith Lord Darth Caedus, following a path to become a new Evil Emperor.
You know it is inevitable that he will be taken down, and right from the beginning of this volume you know that it is his sister Jaina who will do it. But it is a worthwhile read as she, her surviving family, and the Jedi proceed.
The only thing that bothers me is that it is made very clear at the end that one particular person has died, yet the flap at the end, advertising the next Star Wars book, "Millennium Falcon", makes it clear that this person is very much still alive. That would be logical if the new book took place earlier than "Invincible", but the blurb makes it clear that it is a continuation.
