one of the best out-of-the-box reads I've had in months
I picked up this book while stranded in the Tampa airport because, upon flipping through the pages, it seemed like a real out-of-the-box thought-provoker. I wasn't disappointed. I doubt that I'll find myself becoming a member of the "New Rich" and at almost 50 I won't be living the high-energy lifestyle Mr. Ferris enjoys in his world travels, but I do intend to apply many of his principles to my own life and work. Ferris advocates a new type of "micro-capitalism" showing how individuals and not just mega-corporations can take advantage of the new global economy and the power of the Internet. His call to simplify life and work and eliminate the unnecessary is useful advice whether or not one plans to create an Internet-based business that runs on autopilot and feeds a high-flying lifestyle. Mr. Ferris' philosophy is two parts The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century, one part Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, with a little Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want thrown in for seasoning. The book is a quick read and definitely worth the investment for challenging old assumptions about work and the necessity of the historic labor-retirement cycle. And who knows? Perhaps I'll have my own Internet business running on autopilot and a few tweaks from my Banaglore-based personal assistants while I vacation in Indonesia soon ...

Interesting mix of ideas and reviews
I agree with some of the reviews here. Yes, if every one did it, it wouldn't work.

The same truism works with basic economics and the same can be said about investing. If that statement does not make sense to you, just read a couple of economics books and you will get it.

As a business owner and a former employee, I found myself looking at the clock and doing nothing the last half hour of the day. and I hated being there, not being productive and trying to fill my time up with BS stuff after I have gotten everything done just to get a pay check.

look at the math.

say $30 an hour- so $15= 30 mins. X 5 days X 49 weeks= 7350 mins wasted or 122.5 hours per year(3 work weeks), equating to $3675 a year.

or 6.12% of your work year is wasted on doing nothing. Wasted, you will never get that back.

Yes, if you can start a business do it because you are just getting older.
My girlfriends mom just came back from Vegas and she is 68, and she described the aches and pains of going first and what they did second. and what she did at 68 is not what you will do at 30.

I do not want to wait to retire. Neither should you.

Follow the thread Timothy has left and get out of the maze
I would recommend this book to anyone. Even if you're happy and comfortable with your 9 to 5 life, I don't know anyone who would not enjoy hearing the adventures and anticdotes of a character like Timothy Ferriss. I laughed out loud every 10 pages. This book exposed me to modern methods for achieving financial sovereignty. Despite the conventional consensus, all the evidence I've seen dictates that employment is not the endpoint, only a stepping stone on the financial journey. I couldn't be more grateful to Timothy for publishing this book. Thank you:D

Great Book
This book is very good for ideas on nonconventional work and live outside the lines. Loved it.
