Inspiring This book is an inspiration to all those who seek to make a difference in the world. It shows that one person can truely make a difference. I also found the descriptions of life in Pakistan and the surrounding regions to be fascinating. In a time when the general media tries to make Muslim and Islamic follower out to be evil this book helps to bring a different perspective. I think it is a must read for anyone who wants to learn more about the middle east and anyone who really cares about peace and future generations!
one of the most inspiring books i've ever read simply put, one of the most inspiring books i've ever read. even the biggest cynic will have trouble not being moved and won over by greg mortenson's passion for creating schools in places the world has ignored [pakistan and afghanistan in particular] or, worse, ravished with war.
mortenson's commitment and unerring north star steers him to do the right thing in struggle after struggle. it is simply amazing. in this reader's view, he is worthy of a nobel peace price.
Good read with a several great messages This is good book with great information to broaden your view of a world of which most people have very little knowledge much less understanding. As our world shrinks due to media coverage and people movement beyond the borders of their native lands, we need better knowledge of who "those" people are and a deeper understanding of our interfacing with them. EDUCATION, BY THEM AND US, IS THE KEY TO UNDERSTANDING OF OTHERS AND OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THEM.
For them - schools and opportunities; For us - starbursts of hope Compassion, determination, resilience, love - critics don't often rate a book for these attributes, but readers will carry these stories into their conversations and thoughts and lives. A book for times when it's so easy to see no causes for hope. A book for times when you need to see the faces of compassion and joy. Follow the recommendations for action at the end of this hope filled book. Donate, write a review, pass on to a friend or your library. I heard about this book on Saturday and finished it today. This afternoon I will pass on to a friend who I know will read it.
