Everyone should read this book (or audiobook at least) This is the bible of productivity books, but the best thing about it is that just by *reading* it you will walk away with a better life (IMHO).
You can go as far down the rabbit hole of tuning your productivity systems as far as you want, but just knowing the basic premise that *writing down* every little task you need to do as soon as you identify it will automatically make you more productive and, more importantly, *reduce your stressing about things*.
The first time I read this book months ago, I started using simple todo lists more when my schedule got hectic - thats all. But when I had a contract project finishing up days after my wedding, I returned to the audiobook to refresh myself and realized how much I had actually adopted from the book, and tuned it to get through a really stressful and busy period in my life with relative ease.
If you are unsure or a lazy reader (like me), I would recommend the abridged audiobook. Its a fast, easy and passive way to get started.
For me, I bit the bullet and got a hosted exchange server with outlook 2007 - now my laptop, my desktop, and my blackberry are always 100% synced instantly with my contacts, *tasks*, email (whose inbox I always keep *empty!*), and calendar.
For me, this solution is perfect and managing my time is now a non-issue.
Good read Well-thought out efficient advice on managing your time, tasks, and life.
For those struggling with organization and time management, you will find
compelling yet practical approaches to regaining control, and finding more
time to pursue life outside of work. This is a busy genre of books, and I
personally liked this one above most.
Very helpful if you are logical and serious about getting organized I read the book cover to cover and implemented his strategy. I think it is well written and very useful. Basically the system uses lists and simple filing to organize all of your incoming "stuff". The most interesting aspect was the psychological relief you get from knowing all your thoughts and incoming data are captured and filed away for action later on. It actually makes me want to come up with more things to do!!! I found once I organized everything, I had free time and could take on more without worrying about forgetting something or letting things get out of control.
Excellent Though every detail may not be for everyone, David Allen's common sense approach to managing your life has something in it for everyone. This isn't about what to do - it's about how to organize what you do so that you can avoid the "out-of-control" feeling that has become such a normal part of life in the modern world.
